KBA initially assessed the existing conditions of the varsity softball field at Southing High School as part of the 2020 athletic facility master plan. The process ultimately lead to the proposed renovations of the field, which included irrigation improvements, renovations to the clay infield, dugouts, pull pens, a new backstop, and the incorporation of ADA compliant access. The project team assisted in presenting the need for the improvements and estimated project costs to the Town of Southington and the public.
Upon receiving approval for the project, KBA prepared Construction Documents, provide bidding assistance, and assisted the Town with Construction Administration services.
The improvements to the softball field extend beyond just the renovations to the infield playing surface. The project also included addressing accessibility concerns for athletes and spectators, provided new covered dugouts, and incorporated utilities improvements. The existing outfield fence was repaired and a new safety cap was installed. This allowed for the renovations to take place outside of the spring softball season and allow the field to be utilized for the 2023 spring softball season.
