In 2020 KBA performed the assessment, programing, and development of a master plan for improvements to the athletic facilities at the Southington High School. The existing athletic facility on campus is home to 10 athletic fields, a track ‘stadium’, 7 tennis courts, and 2 structures that house restrooms and concessions.
The assessment reviewed the current condition of the existing athletic fields, track & field events, and tennis courts, as well as the site amenities that affect the use of these facilities. This included storage, parking, lighting, spectator viewing, bleachers, press boxes and dugouts, accessibility, circulation, and access. Utilizing the inventory and evaluation of the existing athletic facility KBA lead the project stakeholders and facility users through a series of programming meetings. These meetings guided the decisions and project priorities, ultimately creating the facility master plan.
The final master plan for capital improvements to the Athletic Facility at Southington High School detailed recommended improvements to address deficiencies in the current campus’s athletic facility to meet the programming needs. The master plan also priorities the capital improvements based on their need and their current condition.
The final plan included renovations to both of the junior varsity and varsity baseball and softball fields, the 3 natural grass multi-sport fields, conversion of an existing natural grass practice field to a multi-sport synthetic turf field, and field lighting. The proposed improvements also included the replacement of the track and track events, the synthetic turf field, the tennis courts, bleachers and press boxes, and dugouts.
KBA also provided design and construction contract administration services for the first phase of improvements to the varsity softball and baseball fields resulting from the master plan.
