The project, funded through the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection’s STEAP Grant, provided the ability for the Town and Berlin Public Schools to convert the existing natural grass field within the track to a multi-sport synthetic turf field. The new multi-purpose field, located within the existing 400M track, allows the high school athletic programs to practice on campus while maintaining the use of Scalise Field and Stadium for games, matches, and community use. The improvements to the athletic facility extended beyond the new synthetic turf field and included ball safety netting, new ADA compliant access, fencing improvements, field and grounds maintenance equipment, and portable field lights.
KBA assisted with selection of the synthetic turf system, and provided design, permitting, bidding, and construction administration services. As with all KBA projects, the field was tested to meet industry leading player and ball interaction requirements, ensure the surface performs as close as possible to a natural grass field.
