A feasibility study completed by KBA for the Town of Hingham determined that a new combined public safety facility will address the numerous deficiencies experienced by the current Fire and Police Stations. During the conceptual design phase, the Design Team and Town collaborated on a plan to decrease the size and cost of the project, without compromising the department operations. That effort resulted in a 13% decrease in the size of the building and still allows for a two-level parking facility with ample space for both Police and Fire Departments.
The three-story design was developed to include each department’s requirements into one building. The new building’s design reflects the industrial and nautical history of the Town and Hingham Shipyard. The facility was designed with a flat roof and similar massing to be consistent with surrounding buildings.
The new state-of-the-art building will provide members with more space and additional health and safety features including energy-efficient and sustainable advantages.
