To ease overcrowding in the elementary schools, sixth grade was moved to the middle school, and ninth grade was moved to the high school. Oliver Ames was renovated to have the capacity for the additional students and upgrade the facility which was dark and had a “run-down” look. Educational spaces were reorganized to address program needs, ultimately creating a classroom wing, a new art room and new media center. A new addition included a 1,200 seat performing arts center and support spaces, cafeteria, kitchen and servery, and gymnasium.
