Kaestle Boos Associates, Inc. conducted a space needs assessment for the New Britain Police Department. Questionnaires were distributed to key department personnel which gathered information including the number of sworn officers, shift complements, number of cells, fleet size, number of service calls, and equipment. The information was used to develop a space needs program to meet both the current and future needs of the department.
The Chief of Police worked closely with Kaestle Boos to determine and design the interior layout of the facility to provide an efficient operating working environment for the police department.
The new 88,000 s.f. facility includes a secure Sally Port, administrative offices, a secure prisoner processing area which meets all codes, roll call room, secure evidence storage, parking, dispatch/E-911 communications center, and a state-of-the-art training center. All state and Federal codes were met including ADA accessibility. The new facility also serves as the City’s Emergency Operations Center.
