Sharon Middle School is a grade 6-8 middle school built as a grade 7-8 junior high school. The current addition/renovation project features the renovation of 102,000 s.f. and an addition of approximately 50,000 s.f. The 2-story addition will replace the Grade 6 modular classrooms, provide space for an early childhood center; and bring the Sharon Central Administration offices to the second floor.
The kitchen, servery and cafeteria has been expanded and refurbished. The existing media center was converted to new science labs for the seventh grade, and a new large media center is part of the addition. A new band room was created from the former wood shop while the current band room has become a permanent home for the chorus.
Additional project features include classroom, office and auditorium updates to meet Code compliance including accessibility. Inefficient windows have been replaced, and energy efficient lighting and technology is being included throughout the building. Removal of asbestos containing material, and replacement of the roof and HVAC systems were completed in previous projects.
