Kaestle Boos completed the renovation-as-new of the PK-5 Gaffney Elementary School in 2015. The project included a new 4,000 SF additions for Pre-K classrooms and support spaces, a new 9,500 SF addition for additional classrooms, administrative offices, and support spaces, and renovation of the remaining 67,000 SF. Renovations included replacement of door, window, and roof systems with energy efficient models, replacement of the heating and sprinkler systems, removal of hazardous materials, upgraded technology and security systems, and code compliance improvements including ADA accessibility. Classrooms were also reconfigured to provide space for a new art room, new chorus/band room, new sensory room, and special education classrooms. Existing spaces, including the cafeteria, gymnasium, and auditorium were refurbished and brightened. Site improvements included additional parking, improved vehicular and pedestrian circulation, and new playground equipment.
